BIO
Maxime Vavasseur, also known under the Witxes moniker, is a french artist, musician, composer, arranger and remixer. Maxime has operated within various fields of music from experimental music to dream pop, from delicate folk to loud telluric hardcore. but also commissions for contemporary dance or art installations. Not academically trained as an instrumentalist, he uses various instruments (guitar, bass, percussions, etc.), electronics and his voice to create his own musical language. His personal work is focused on blurring lines between sources, trying to find a balance between improvisation, sound research and composition. In the past decade, through Witxes, has been invited to perform along with the likes of Chelsea Wolfe, Tim Hecker, Anna von Hausswolff, Stephen O'Malley, Bohren & der Club of Gore, Emma Ruth Rundle and many more, but also has toured the world as sideman for american songwriter Chris Garneau.
Now newly retired from touring, he settled in Lyon's countryside, gardening, cooking, throwing clay and writing music. Maxime is interested in helping artists develop sonic palettes before they go into the studio, he tries to question coherence and to find singular paths. He is also still taking on commissions for installations, dance, theater and remixes.
